STUDENT: The Forensic Mentors Institute

Summer Mentoring Research Program – This program is conducted under the The Forensic Mentors Institute (FMI) of the Foundation. High school students (chosen with an emphasis on those demographically underrepresented), high school science teachers and graduate students work in groups and conduct original research generally involving forensic science. The program, lasting nine weeks, starts in mid June and is completed by the third week of August. Projects and data are presented formally at the end of the program to an audience of teachers, fellow students, family, friends and various other invited scientists. Funding for these projects is from outside sources such as private donations, state funding and grants and ACS Project SEED grants as well as from the foundation’s endowment.
